Welcome to my Best Progressive Metal blog and your guide to some of the genre’s best music.
My name is Frank and I am the owner of this blog. I live in Australia and I’m in my 30′s. My taste in music has changed over the years many times and to be honest I would have never thought I would consider Progressive Music to be my favorite genre. I am a regular casual sort of guy, I don’t have tattoos, hardly ever drink, don’t take drugs and have a clean cut appearance. Probably not the look that you would normally associate with a big Progressive Metal fan. Not to stereotype anyone but it’s to some degree kind of expected when people who don’t know much about this music might think. I mention this because In my opinion Progressive Metal not Metal has a kind of sophistication to it. Some music incorporates classical, other opera, some even Jazz and I heard some even incorporating Techno music like for example the German group Ramstein. Progressive music is at times quite heavy indeed and in fact that’s kind of what I like about it, I enjoy the heavy electric guitar sound that often accompanies the Progressive Metal music, its what makes it special. I’m not really into the grunting and pure shouting types, I much prefer the female vocalists more actually, especially when they have that operatic sound to it. For example Nightwish’s ex vocalist Tarja, I really like her voice because it has a kind of Gothic haunting sound to it, it just suits the metal music really well.
I wanted to make it clear that there are Symphonic Metal groups out there that are about evilness and hey if that’s your style then fine everyone to their own, but this blog highlights music that yes is a bit Gothic and dark but without the intention of being straight out sinister.
I want to share with you all a blog full of great music and I would be grateful for any support or comments. In fact I would love to hear from you via my Contact form if you wish to let me know of any good artists or bands. I’m always on the look out for new stuff and It would be great to get some ideas. I’m not into marketing spam or junk mail either so if you contact me, you can rest assure your privacy.
If you like this blog now that its in its infancy then its only going to get better as more and more stuff keeps getting added, and that’s what I intend on doing. This is my new project with which I wish to share with anyone interested and your support is most welcome.
Progressive Metal or Symphonic Metal, whatever you want to call it, its just great music. In fact I’ve introduced it to a few of my friends who were never into any kind of Metal music and now they are total converts. If you like this genre style of music then you know what I mean. If you haven’t really listened to it then go ahead and sample some stuff on this blog.
Also I would like to mention that my favorite of all bands is the group called Therion. Therion In my opinion is the most unique and complex example of Progressive music around, In fact they actually hire out whole entire 150 piece or more orchestra’s with conductors and all throughout Europe at times to create the most amazing symphonic metal music around, they literally spend months to the point of exhaustion trying to perfect their art. Therion’s music sounds very Gothic and kind of medieval and can give the impression of being satanic or demonic. Quite on the contrary though, Therion uses a style of music based around mythological characters, most of their songs are like that. If you see them in interviews you will notice that they are just a bunch of very regular folks but with a huge talent, quite polite and well spoken characters. Progressive Music is classy and powerful in my opinion. Its combines many styles of music while adding a powerful sound. I highly recommend it.
I created this blog because I have an appreciation for Progressive Metal music and have established a decent sized collection of songs I believe would be great to share with anyone interested via my suggested posts and the Youtube videos shown. Of course the music is not for everyone but if you listen to it with an open mind, you will realize that its unique blending of styles makes it stand out amongst the rest of mainstream music.
Throughout this blog you will notice many Youtube videos, all are not of my making but they are there in the public arena and a regular visit to their rightful owners would be appreciated on their behalf I’m sure.
Anyways, enjoy your stay and give us a bookmark if you like it here.
Thanks for visiting.
Frank
